About

Intercity Transit’s Bicycle Community Challenge (BCC) is a fun, free community event that encourages people of all ages and abilities residing in Thurston County to try cycling for transportation, health and well-being.

The BCC started in 1988 with about 30 participants as a challenge between a few workplaces in Olympia. Since then, the event has “grown up” along with its level of participation. In 2006 Intercity Transit began hosting the event and is now one of Intercity Transit’s many programs for improving mobility and quality of life in our community.

Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, volunteers and participants, the Bicycle Community Challenge is now in its 36th year!

If this is your first time here:

Click on the red “Create Account” button and fill in the required information. Choose a team from the drop-down menu. If you don't see your team or want to start a new team, you can create one after registering, and then add yourself to it on your account page. Please look carefully for your team in the dropdown menu before creating a new team- duplicate teams are a pain! Thanks!

Next, you can optionally add family members to your account, such as children or other participating family members with whom you share an email address. This is different than creating a team. This feature is to allow children or others without their own email account to particpate in the BCC.

Finally, answer the math question to prove you're not a robot, and click the green "Create New Account" button. A confirmation link will be sent to your email (If you don't see it within a few minutes, please check your spam or junk folder). Click on the link in the email to activate your account.

If you already have an account here: Log in, and log your rides! Only rides logged in February will count towards your Winter BCC total, and rides in May and on April 18 for the Earth Day Market Ride will count towards your May BCC total. You may log your rides anytime year-round for your own purposes, and they will accrue to your Account Totals.

  • To join a team when creating your account, simply choose your team's name from the drop-down menu in the form, as part of your registration process.
  • To join a team AFTER creating your account, go to your My Account page (link in blue bar at top), click "Edit", and scroll down to the drop-down Team menu to choose your team, and then Save.

A team must consist of more than one member. Teams with only one member will not be recognized by the BCC as a team, and can't win team prizes or recognition. If you create a team, get busy and recruit some team mates :-) Thanks for understanding!

  1. You can only create a new team if you are not already on a team.
  2. Please look carefully in the Team dropdown on your account page to make sure you are not about to duplicate an existing team. Duplicate teams are a headache, so thanks for understanding!
  3. Look for the Recent Team Activity box (or My Team's Activity bar, on a mobile device).
  4. Click on the blue Create a Team button, and enter a team name, and an optional description of your team.
  5. Your team is now created, but you still need to add yourself to it! Go to your My Account page (link in top blue bar (or in the hamburger on a mobile device), scroll down to the Team dropdown, and select your team. Then scroll to the bottom and click Save.
  6. Recruit members, log your rides, and Go Team!! Only teams with more than one member can win prizes.

There's no requirement to join a team but many people find it more fun and motivating to be part of a team. Teams require two or more people and can be made up of coworkers, class mates, friends or family. To win team prizes, teams must be registered with the BCC. Teams can win prizes in the following categories:

  • Most days ridden per team
  • Highest average days ridden per rider
  • Most new riders recruited

The Winter BCC runs for the month of February, celebrating Winter Bike to Work Day on the third Friday.

The Earth Day Market Ride is the Kick-off event for the May BCC, on the third Saturday in April.
