About

Intercity Transit’s Bicycle Community Challenge (BCC) is a fun, free community event that encourages people of all ages and abilities residing in Thurston County to try cycling for transportation, health and well-being.

The BCC started in 1988 with about 30 participants as a challenge between a few workplaces in Olympia. Since then, the event has “grown up” along with its level of participation. In 2006 Intercity Transit began hosting the event and is now one of Intercity Transit’s many programs for improving mobility and quality of life in our community.

Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, volunteers and participants, the Bicycle Community Challenge is now in its 37th year!

Frequently Asked Questions

If this is your first time here:

Click on Log in or Register (here, or in the top bar on the Home page) and fill in the required information. Optionally choose a team from the drop-down menu. If you don't see your team or want to start a new team, you can create one after registering, and then add yourself to it on your account page. There is no requirement to be part of a team, but it can be more fun! Please look carefully for your team in the drop-down menu before creating a new team- duplicate teams are a pain! Thanks!
Next, you can optionally add a child to your account. This is different than creating a team. This feature is to allow children or others without their own email account to participate in the BCC.

Make sure the check box "Show this user's rides on their team" is checked, unless you prefer that your team mates not see your rides attributed to you.

Finally, if you see an anti-bot math question, answer that to prove you're not a robot, and click the blue "Register and Join a Team!" button. A confirmation link will be sent to your email (If you don't see it within a few minutes, please check your spam or junk folder). Click on the link in the email to activate your account.

If you already have an account here: Log in, and log your rides! Only rides logged in February will count towards your Winter BCC total, and rides in May and on the Earth Day Market Ride will count towards your May BCC total. You may log your rides anytime year-round for your own purposes, and they will accrue to your Account Totals.

To join a team or change teams, go to your Account page, click Edit My Profile. In the Rider(s) section, click the Edit button to the right of your user name (next to the red Remove button) and choose your team from the drop down menu, then click the blue Save button at the bottom of the page. A team must consist of more than one member. Teams with only one member will not be recognized by the BCC as a team, and can't win team prizes or recognition. If you create a team, get busy and recruit some team mates :-) Thanks for understanding!

  1. You can only create a new team if you have an account, and are logged in.
  2. Click on Account, and then Edit My Profile
  3. Click the Edit button to the right of your user name in the Riders section of your account page.
  4. Please look carefully in the Team drop-down on your account page to make sure you are not about to duplicate an existing team. Duplicate teams are a headache, so thanks for understanding!
  5. You will see a link: "To create your own new team, click here".
  6. Click the link and enter a team name, and an optional description of your team. Click the blue Save button.
  7. Your team is now created, but you still need to add yourself to it. Click the Edit button next to your user name again, choose your new team from the Team drop-down, and select your team. Then click Save.
  8. Recruit members, log your rides, and Go Team!! Only teams with more than one member can win prizes.

There's no requirement to join a team but many people find it more fun and motivating to be part of a team. Teams require two or more people and can be made up of coworkers, class mates, friends or family. To win team prizes, teams must be registered with the BCC. Teams can win prizes in the following categories:

  • Most days ridden per team
  • Most miles ridden per team
  • Highest average miles per team
  • Highest average days ridden per rider
  • Most new riders recruited
