The BCC is Resilient!

Times are tough and strange, but the Bicycle Commuter Challenge is rolling with the changes!

Because many people are working from home, or are not working due to the current situation, the BCC is adapting. This year, the BCC is about staying healthy in body, mind and spirit! Fresh air, daylight and physical activity are all essential for our health, and bicycling is a great way to get all three.

The 2020 Thurston County Bicycle Commuter Challenge will go ahead (unless further developments prevent it), with the following changes:The 2020 BCC will be a 100% online event, with no in-person gatherings.

  • For 2020 only, the BCC will pivot away from solely encouraging people to bike to their practical destinations. In 2020 the BCC will also encourage people to ride their bikes for recreation, carefully, while maintaining social distancing, for the benefits to their own physical, emotional, and mental health, in accordance with the Governor's "Stay Home, Stay Healthy" Proclamation.
  • In April, the BCC will celebrate with social media photo and story sharing opportunities, kids creative projects, and prize drawings among BCC riders who post or send in pictures or stories to our channels (see Events Page for details).
  • In May, the BCC website will record the rides that participants enter as usual, and there will be weekly prize drawings for all riders who enter their rides that week, like the Winter BCC. All bike rides count, no need to have a destination other than health and well being!
  • The sponsor coupons will be suspended for this year, due to uncertainty about business closures and printing availability.

Stay tuned to the BCC newsfeed and our Facebook page and Instagram for all the details and to participate!
