2020 Bicycle Commuter Challenge

Start Date:
Friday, May 1, 2020
End Date:
Sunday, May 31, 2020

Each spring the Thurston County Bicycle Commuter Challenge (BCC) provides encouragement and motivation to try getting around by bicycle, with fun events and prizes. Many people are either not working or working from home these days, so the BCC is adapting and encouraging people to get out on their bikes just for the health of it. Outdoor exercise and fresh air are essential to our health and well-being. The Governor's Stay Home, Stay Healthy order recognizes this, and allows walking and biking solo or with those living in quarantine together.

This May, join the BCC for our adapted events to make your biking adventures even more fun, and you could win a prize too!

Bicycle Commuter Challenge -

May 1 through 31, log your bike rides and be entered to win prizes! This year, all bike rides count, whether it is around the block, an essential trip to the grocery store, or a solo metric century to the border of the county and back. Follow the current social distancing guidelines (which may change during the month), ride EXTRA carefully to avoid injuries, and stay local.

Each Friday in May, at 3 p.m., we'll do a random prize drawing among everyone who logged rides that week. Prizes include bike gear from Portland Design Works, Ortlieb and NiteRider, plus awesome BCC swag like our coveted coffee mugs, and this year, for members of outstanding teams, a sweet BCC logo recycled canvas shopping tote!

Log rides on 10 days in May to be entered to win a new bike!

Log rides on 15 days in May to be entered to win our Grand Prize, a $4500 bike trip with Adventure Cycling! (You must have a Thurston County mailing address to be entered in prize drawings).

Bike Scavenger Hunt - For All Ages!

This May, since schools are closed and we won't have our School Bike Challenge, we've added the Bike Scavenger Hunt! In this simple and fun event, particpants look for the items listed on the Scavenger Hunt card (download PDF below) and check them off on their bike rides in May. Return your completed card by 3 p.m. each Friday in May to be entered in a prize drawing! Prizes include bike bells, stickers, lights and other cool bike-related goodies. Enter up to 4 cards (one per week in May). Every entrant who turns in at least one completed card by June 7 will receive a reflective Helmet sticker!

If this is your first time here:

Click on the red “Create Account” button and fill in the required information. Choose a team from the drop-down menu. If you don't see your team or want to start a new team, you can create one after registering, and then add yourself to it on your account page. Please look carefully for your team in the dropdown menu before creating a new team- duplicate teams are a pain! Thanks!

Next, you can optionally add family members to your account, such as children or other participating family members with whom you share an email address. This is different than creating a team. This feature is meant to allow children or others without their own email account to particpate in the BCC.

Finally, answer the math question to prove you're not a robot, and click the green "Create New Account" button. A confirmation link will be sent to your email (If you don't see it within a few minutes, please check your spam or junk folder). Click on the link in the email to activate your account. Welcome aboard!
